The Mudgee Wine Show is proud to be a regional wine show that promotes wines made from grapes grown within the Mudgee GI. For the first time in 2014, the Mudgee Wine Show, recognized there are local producers who utilize fruit from within the Central Ranges zone that encompasses Cowra, Orange and Mudgee. These blended wines often highlight the unique structural and flavour attributes that the Mudgee region possesses. Their importance is acknowledged by allowing their entry again to the 2016 Wine Show.
This allows the 2016 Mudgee Wine Show Committee to not only to reward these producers with medals for their successful entries but also provides the scope for the Wine Show to retain an important educational focus for local Winemakers. Additionally, in 2016, a new class has been introduced named “Mudgee Classic Blends” to highlight blended wines made using Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz of which there are many outstanding examples. These innovations also maintains the relevance of the local Wine Show to a constantly evolving industry and market place. This will hopefully allow local producers to improve the quality of their wines and is in the true spirit of the Australian Wine Show system.
The Wine Show Committee is pleased to welcome producers with eligible exhibits to the 2016 CCL Mudgee Wine Show. The panel of Judges is led by Mike DeGaris, and includes Sue Hodder and Steven Doyle.

2016 Call for Mudgee Gold Samples
Mudgee Gold is a unique expression of the Mudgee Wine region and represents the areas finest viticultural and winemaking skills. It is a wine that shows the strength of our wine community, and the collaboration between grape growers and winemakers. Every year at the wine show, the judges grade the current vintage samples and are looking for the best parcels of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The judges of the 2016 Wine Show will select the best of the samples to be fine-tuned and bottled by some of the young winemakers of the region. Given Mudgee’s gold mining history and the relevant criteria for selection, the name “Mudgee Gold” was a foregone conclusion.
The Mudgee Gold is sponsor driven, and all proceeds go back to the Association for research, development and marketing. In the first year of Mudgee Gold, a limited number of double-magnums (3 litre bottles) and 750ml bottles were produced, as the exclusivity of this wine was to be protected. We do hope you enjoy and support this great collaborative effort. It is a testament to the outstanding potential and finesse of Mudgee red wines.
At the 2016 Wine Show, we are again calling for samples of 2016 Mudgee GI Red wines, of any variety. The wines will be judged under normal wine show protocol, as a separate class at the end of the show, and all gold medal winning wines will be eligible for the 2016 Mudgee Gold blend, to be decided by the MWGGA Wine tech committee.
